The dataset is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. You may copy, redistribute and adapt it, commercially too, as long as you credit Nutella Index and link to this page.
The license covers the data in the files. Evidence photos and videos, and the text and design of this site, are not part of it.
What is left out
Contributor names, photos and moderation notes stay out of the file. A chosen name shows beside its observation on the site, but a bulk download is a different kind of exposure. Observations waiting for review and merged duplicates are not published, so they are not exported either.
Columns
In file order. Empty means unknown, never zero.
- observation_id
- Stable identifier. The observation page is at observation_url.
- country_iso
- ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code.
- country_name
- Country name in English.
- city
- City, when the contributor gave one.
- retailer
- Store or chain, when known.
- observed_on
- Day the price was seen on the shelf (YYYY-MM-DD).
- date_precision
- exact, estimated, or publication_proxy (the price was seen on or before this day).
- weight_g
- Jar size in grams.
- local_price
- Price paid, in the local currency.
- local_currency
- ISO 4217 currency code.
- eur_price
- The jar price converted to euros.
- price_per_100g_eur
- The comparable figure: euros per 100 g.
- fx_rate
- Exchange rate used (local currency to EUR). Empty for older rows with no rate on record.
- fx_rate_source
- ecb, peg or manual. Empty for euro prices.
- fx_rate_date
- Date the exchange rate was published for.
- price_type
- Always regular since methodology 3.0: the published price is the normal one. Kept for compatibility.
- counted_in_figure
- true when the row is part of its country figure today.
- provenance
- photo_verified, video_timestamped or legacy.
- source_url
- Source video, at its timestamp when known. Empty for photo submissions.
- source_timestamp_s
- Offset into the source video, in seconds.
- observation_url
- The observation on this site, with its evidence.
- discounted_price
- The price paid when the jar was on offer, in local currency. Empty when the normal price was paid. Never the published price.
- discount_note
- The offer text, when recorded ("-30%", "2 for 1").
- regular_price_source
- Where the normal price came from: tag, photo, retailer_site, moderator (another documented source) or assumed (not checked).
- regular_price_checked_on
- When the normal price was checked, if not on the observation day (YYYY-MM-DD).

The methodology sets out which observations count, how prices are converted and when a country figure becomes a median. Its version history is also the dataset changelog.
